Dear Colleague,
Are you currently experiencing some form of occupational strain?
Do your wrists, hands and back hurt at the end of each day?
Are you concerned about how long you can continue to practice in the career you love so much?
I encourage you to ask yourself these questions. If you have answered “yes” to even one of these questions I suggest you take ten minutes and read this letter. It won’t cost you anything but your time.
How sleep walking out of a third story window changed my life and I am here to change yours.
Yes, in my second year as a massage therapy student I slept walked out of a third story window. True story. I broke my back and crushed both my feet. I was in the hospital for seventeen days and I nearly died twice while a guest of the facility.
After surviving that experience I spent the next four and a half months in a wheelchair. I actually got on my feet three days before my board exams which I proceeded to fail.
Thankfully on my next attempt I passed them. I was ready to start my clinical practice. One thing though, I was experiencing back pain and my feet hurt with every step.
How I Discovered the Amazing Secrets of Deep Tissue Therapy from a teacher under five foot 4.
While in my first year of practice my clients kept asking for more depth and I just couldn’t deliver the goods. I had to look for a teacher to teach me how to work deeper or I risked being out of business in no time.
I found what I believe to be the most experienced massage therapist in B.C, if not in Canada. I studied with him for six years and I learned the value of deep tissue therapy with his unique, innovative and dynamic techniques that were at the cutting edge.
How the pain in my back and feet were my greatest teachers.
While I was incorporating these amazing techniques I was still experiencing back pain. What I realized was if I kept a rigorous bio-mechanical posture that involved movement I could work pain free. It was an amazing revelation that has served me to this day.
How I became an international lecturer and teacher and have helped hundreds of therapists work pain free and reclaim the joy of clinical practice.
I started out teaching in the United States and Canada. Europe soon followed. What started out to be a deep tissue course changed focus to eliminating existing occupational strain in the practitioner.
I have taught over 1000 students and over 85% of them were suffering from some form of occupational strain. Less than 5% were still hurting after the completion of the three day live workshop. The gratification of knowing I am helping so many people has kept me going all of these years.
Research has proven that Massage Therapists are at risk of occupational strain.
Dr. Wayne Albert of the University of New Brunswick, Canada did a sample of convenience study with 500 participating massage therapists across Canada. What he found was 82% of the participants were hurting in five keys areas. The thumb, wrist, neck, back and shoulder.
You may be asking yourself how I can achieve such consistent results.
Regardless of where I am teaching in the world or the educational or practical ability of the students I encounter there are two things that they have to fundamentally change in order to be able to have a pain free experience for life.
The first is the bio-mechanics and movement that I have been talking about. Having a rigorous upright posture and then have your body continuously moving is the first challenge for the practitioner.
The second is being introduced to these unique, innovative and dynamic techniques I learned from my mentor. If used correctly they will replace all of the techniques you are currently using that are the root cause of occupational strain.
Bio-mechanics and movement coupled with user friendly techniques form the basis of a very powerful system of deep tissue therapy that I currently teach.
I have discovered how to be able to work pain free while working long hours and while treating clients that are tough as nails. I want to share this system with you. It comes in the form of my 4-part DVD home study series.
I diligently practiced my deep tissue techniques every night with the help of “Schweitzer Deep Tissue Therapy” Basic Level DVD’s that I had purchased at his workshop. I was trying to perfect my techniques.
They are amazing! It’s just like taking the live course over again - critiquing any technique that you didn’t quite grasp during the course - only its one-on-one and in your own living room! The DVD's are very well done and I recommend that everyone taking the course should purchase them.”

Here are some of the benefits of studying this program.
Here are some questions that you might be asking yourself
One reason why I took the DVD course was because of a very tiny female client, who was perhaps 4’11” and maybe 95 lbs soaking wet.
The first time I massaged her she asked me to go deeper at least 4 times. I thought I was going deep enough, but not for her. A month later she came back again and at what I thought was the deepest I could go, she asked me to go deeper. I tried, but I do not think I made her too happy.
I heard that Gary Schweitzer was coming to Winnipeg, but I had no time to go to the live workshop. The pamphlet also said I could purchase his video series and study on my own time. I bought the course.
When my little 4 foot 11 client showed up the next time I was ready. I warmed her up and when I started using Gary’s method I asked her how the pressure was, she replied “Very Good”. Five minutes later I asked her again and she said it was excellent.
Not one time during the massage did she ask me to go deeper! Thanks Gary

A. This is common complaint from massage therapists. The reason is most deep tissue approaches are painful. What is different with this system versus other deep tissue training courses is that we teach you how to minimize the discomfort often associated with deep tissue by using the “gate theory technology”. By using this technology it will eliminate most of the discomfort normally associated with deep treatments while holding the value of the deep work. In the videos this is clearly explained and is referred to as “distraction”.
Q. I am comfortable with the techniques I currently use and I am not experiencing occupational strain and I have a full practice? Why should I change anything?A. Often massage therapists get hooked into doing their massage treatments the same way over and over again. Sometimes you get yourself in a rut and it’s uncomfortable to consider trying something new. Without sounding offensive you may be bored with your treatment style and your clients may be bored of your treatments as well. The problem is they are too afraid to mention it to you. Trying something new may be scary but it can also be exciting and refreshing to try new approaches to keep you interested in your work.
Q. I don’t seem to have the discipline to study a DVD home study seriesA. I realize it is difficult to put a DVD into the player and watch it when you could be outside enjoying yourself. We all operate from a pain/pleasure motivational model. It may be painful to allocate time to study and it may involve some short term pain but it is the long term pleasure of being pain free that really counts. Not to mention feeling more energy at the end of the day and essentially revitalizing your practice and your life.
Q. Will I realize the value of this work even though I am not participating in the live workshop?A. The answer is a resounding “yes” I have broken down each technique into a series of steps. Also, the DVD’s are organized in such a manner so that you can watch one technique at a time, instead of watching each individual DVD as if it were a movie.
Trying something new may be scary but it can also be exciting and refreshing to try new approaches to keep you interested in your work. Q. Why would I consider taking the live three day basic level workshop?A. The fundamental difference between the live workshop and the DVD series is in the live workshop I am looking over your shoulder and correcting your every mistake. With the DVD series you don’t have me in the room offering that level of coaching and support. The truth is even though the DVD’s is an excellent product; nothing can replace the live workshop.
Being the mom of a toddler, the convenience of the home study program is invaluable, as is the added bonus of having a great resource always on hand for review. These DVDs are well put together and organized, and the filming gives excellent views of the techniques that Gary is demonstrating, as if you’re there in the room with him. I’ve implemented many of the techniques and principles into my practice and have had a very positive client response. I highly recommend this DVD series.

Easy does it!” - I treat an average of seven patients daily, five times per week; 20 to 60 minutes; light to deep pressure. Gary Schweitzer’s professionally produced instructional DVD’s are excellent for maximizing effectiveness by employing innovative body mechanics with minimal but focused effort.
He has developed functional, biomechanical tools that RMT’s can use to delve deep into tissues and yet avoid serious occupational injuries that can jeopardize their careers. His specialized approach imparts specific manual techniques to locate and manipulate soft tissue structures without using excessive force. Schweitzer’s Deep Tissue Therapy incorporates harmoniously into my existing repertoire.
These videos are an excellent resource for demonstrating step-by-step techniques with precise details of hand placements and body postures that will enable us to practice our professions for the long-term, safely. Thank you, Gary for making this knowledge available to massage therapists.
